Vercors 40/44
"For the first time, the Resistance and Deportation Museum of Grenoble presented an exhibition dedicated to the events that took place 70 years ago in the Vercors. The region's iconic maquis (groups of resistance fighters) played a particularly important role not only in the history of Isère, but also in that of France.

With the help of modern scenography and using new technologies, the exhibition, designed chronologically, presents the many facets of the Vercors, from a place of leisure to its transformation into a resistance hub. Made up of eyewitness accounts and archive footage, it tells the story of the plateau from the pre-war period to the tragic events of the summer of 1944. A region that provided refuge for Italian workers and then Spanish republicans fleeing the fascist dictatorship, its rich past is part of a reality that transcends borders. A symbol of resistance against the German occupation, the Vercors was also a land of combat and defence of the ideals of freedom, which suffered several destructive assaults from German troops against both the resistance fighters and the civilian population.
What legacy has this powerful story of the Resistance left behind in the Vercors? The exhibition looks back at the image and different representations of the maquis after the war, as well as the enduring impact of its memory, 70 years after the events.
Our association presented the history of the Polish high school on several panels :-) of which we did not take any photos :-(
