"“I'm delighted that you've come to Villard forty years later. I wish you every happiness. You are received here as more than brothers. You are part of our identities”.
The first film about the Polish high school was made in 1986. It is a documentary filmed by Polish television about a reunion of Villardians, many of whom came, not without difficulty, from a Poland that was still under communist rule. Le Dauphiné Libéré regional newspaper wrote: "The simplicity of this documentary and the unadorned vision of the return journey allow for a connection with History with a capital 'H'.”
The most recent film was made in 2020. It was produced by Vercors TV, an association based in Autrans-Méaudre. A remarkable educational documentary. Suzette Guichard, the daughter of the owners of the hotel that used to house the school, spent her teenage years surrounded by eight hundred Polish students. The high school, she says, was not a part of my life, it was my life.
Then there is Rafaël Lewandowski's magnificent film about the school's founder, Zygmunt Lubicz-Zaleski; an interview with Édouard Renn, who shares his experience as a "dirty Pole", and who witnessed the massacre of his fellow students at Vassieux; the transformations of the Hôtel du Parc et du Château over time; and a kaleidoscope of silent photos that tell the story of the Cyprian Norwid Polish High School in their own way.
All the films are in French, except
- Z dala od orkiestry - Out of the limelight
- Ognisko wolności - Cradle of Freedom
