Out of the limelight
Out of the Limelight (À une certaine distance de l’orchestre) was produced by the Zaleski Foundation (Zygmunt Zaleski Stichting).
For the film, Rafael Lewandowski recorded many hours of interviews with people close to Zygmunt Zaleski and with historians. These include members of his family and former pupils of the Polish high school in Villard-de-Lans. Specialists are also given the opportunity to put Zygmunt Lubicz Zaleski's diplomatic and political activities into context, and to analyse with the necessary historical perspective his contribution to the development of Polish culture during the turbulent period of the First and Second World Wars.
The recollections and personal anecdotes reveal Zygmunt Zaleski not only as a diplomat, man of letters and teacher committed to Polish culture, but also as an open-minded, warm-hearted and passionate man. The story of his life is interspersed with extracts from his own writings, read by the famous Polish actor, Wojciech Pszoniak.
